My work is about making space for new meaning in a world where things can often seem immovable. It takes shape through interventions and projects in and about specific locations and communities, and through more traditional artistic channels like painting. I engage with physical, psychological and discursive sites — the words and images and artifacts of our culture. My work can be personal, incorporating found and collected materials; and words and phrases that surface in things I’m reading or thinking about. I am often as interested in relationships between things as the things themselves. I look past distinctions between high and low culture, proper and improper materials, to create space for looking and experiencing that allows viewers to find their own ways into the work.
