BUMP: The Triangle is a nonprofit music education organization.  Our mission is to foster urban youth empowerment through African Diasporic music and mentoring by promoting musical proficiency, cultural literacy and resilience.

The seeds of African expressive practice have taken root globally – wherever people of African descent live. From those seeds grow the musics that shape us in so many ways  – spirituals, jazz, blues, gospel, hip hop, and the list goes on…

We build our programs and teaching approaches around the sounds, practices, communities, histories and meanings of music of the global African Diaspora. We explore the nine themes that course through these traditions. And we mine these traditions for a wealth of artistic, cognitive and social capital.

When youth recognize the richness of their cultural assets, and acquire its cultural capital, they can build on these assets and orchestrate their own future. This is what we at BUMP are all about!
