I’m Rahela Laquidara, a versatile artist currently immersed in my personal creative journey after leaving public art education behind. In my classes, ‘Colored Pencil Magic’ and ‘Vibrant Visions’, I share alternative coloring methods while delving into burnishing and color theory, drawing from our co-published surrealistic book with Kelly T. Stiles.

Beyond teaching, I’m exploring new avenues, experimenting with batik, indigo, and natural dyes in my studio. My focus on batik and embellished shirts and experimental samples has lead me to begin pursuing femininity through art. I am also a musician. Kelly Stiles and I also have a band called “Bambooboo” we are an experimental art house band. I sing and touch instruments in a rhythmic pattern. They make sounds that fall into other patterns in the songs. I wouldn’t say I actually play anything formally. I also write many of our lyrics.

Previously, teaching consumed me, leaving little energy for personal expression. Now, I cherish the freedom to explore various art forms. My background in dance—ten years of ballet, folkloric character dance, and professional belly dancing—fuels my current passion for ecstatic dance at the Living Arts Collective.

Art is about constant learning; I prioritize basics like still life, figure drawing, and landscapes, then revel in the joy of experimentation.
